July 13, 2026

The Sahara Desert is one of the world’s most spectacular places to admire the night sky. Far from city lights, the dunes of Merzouga and Erg Chigaga offer exceptional conditions for viewing thousands of stars, the Milky Way, planets, and seasonal meteor showers. This makes it a prime location for morocco stargazing. Many travelers seek this experience specifically for the unmatched clarity of the night sky, making morocco stargazing a popular choice among enthusiasts.

Whether you’re an astronomy enthusiast, a photographer, or simply looking for a magical evening around the campfire, choosing the right travel dates can make a huge difference. Nights around the New Moon are the darkest and provide the best opportunity to see the Milky Way, while nights around the Full Moon create a completely different experience, illuminating the golden dunes with natural moonlight.

Those travelers seeking to experience the beauty of the cosmos will find that morocco stargazing provides a unique perspective that is unrivaled in many parts of the world.

With special tours dedicated to morocco stargazing, you can enhance your experience by learning from knowledgeable guides who share insights about the stars and constellations.

Planning your trip around the stars?
Tell us your travel month, and we’ll recommend the best departure dates based on moon phases and desert weather—at no extra cost. We are happy to arrange your tour from Casablanca or any city of Morocco.

Many of our guests describe the overnight stay in the Sahara Desert as the highlight of their Morocco trip. While their reviews often praise the peaceful atmosphere, camel trek, and authentic camp experience, the real magic begins after sunset. On clear, moonless nights, the Erg Chebbi dunes offer some of Morocco’s darkest skies, where thousands of stars and the Milky Way can often be seen with the naked eye.

What our guests say about the Sahara experience?

I went with my 3 kids to Marrakech and booked a trip that was memorable. We went on a 3 day trip. Day 1 we went to Ait Ben Haddou (amazing place!!), passing by Ouarzazate and sleeping at Dades Valley. Day 2 we went to Todgha canyon and then the Merzouga desert, where we did a Camel ride to the amazing camp (that included an after diner party around the bonfire, singing and dancing). Day 3: back to Marrakech, passing by Draa Valley .
The experience was amazing and our guide and driver, Mohammed, was a fantastic one, supporting with everything, explaining, driving and making sure we had a great experience. Definitely highly recommendable!

For many travelers, the peaceful silence of the Sahara and the star-filled sky become the most unforgettable memory of the journey.

If you enjoyed the night in the Sahara, we’d love to hear what you thought about the sunset, the camp, or the stars.Review us on Tripadvisor or google Reviews.
