Itinerary
Day 1: Marrakech - Atlas Mountains sightseeing - Ait Ben Haddou - Dades valley
After Breakfast, you’ll be picked up by our driver and start the 3 days Marrakech to Merzouga desert tour heading the South East of Morocco. On the way, cross the high Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n Tichka pass (7 217,85 ft altitude) and enjoy spectacular views of deep valley and Berber towns.
The Tizi N Tichka pass links Marrakech with Ouarzazate and used to be the gateway to the sub-Saharan countries, especially Timbuctoo.
Take some brief stops for photos and ford a drink & for lovely pictures. Move forwards on the way of caravans to reach Ksar Ait Ben Haddou. The Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou is an eleven century citadel which is declared on the 80s as a protected UNESCO site. This impressive Kasbah is used as a movie set and inspire many film directors. Numerous films have been shooted such as “Jesus of Nazareth”, the “man who would be a King”, Lawrence of Arabia and “game of thrones”. After lunch, we continue to Ouarzazate, etymologically refers to the noiseless town, and it’s known under the name of “Hollywood of Africa.
Transfer via Skoura with a break at Kalaa Mgouna to see the roses productions from the area. Travel further along the breath taking valley of Dades to reach your hotel. Check in. Dinner & breakfast.
Day 2: Dades valley - Todra gorges- Erg Chebbi camping
After your yummy breakfast at the hotel, you’ll be transferred along the valley of Dades till the town of Boumalne
from there transfer to Tinghir, best known for the Todra gorges. The canyons have the highest cliffs in the southern Morocco and considered a good place for experienced mountaineers. Walk between the gorges where the river of Todra flows to irrigate the palm groves and the farmers’ plantations.
Later on, keep moving across Tinjdad with a break for lunch, and then Erfoud: famous for sculpture and fossil preparation. There a visit might be included under your interest to see fossil’s preparation.
Transfer to the town of Merzouga. From there start a camel trek expedition to see the sand dunes and reach the desert camp.
See the sun draws multicolor arrays over the sand dunes, walk bare feet, see the sunset from the top of the dunes.
Trek down to the camp for dinner and music show. Overnight at luxury camp.
Day 3: Erg Chebbi dunes - Marrakech
Wake up for sunrise lovely pictures and then have breakfast. Right after transfer to Marrakech via Alnif, Tinghir, and Ouarzazate. After lunch, we keep moving the rest of our way to Marrakech across the high Atlas. Arrival to Marrakech in the early evening.
The return way from Merzouga desert to Marrakech is a long journey of 10 hours’ drive. And if you think that this is a long journey, you can check the possibility to fly from the nearest Errachidia airport to Marrakech. However, flights are available only on Mondays afternoon, and Fridays night. If you fall on those days and you wanted to follow with the flight option,we can arrange to see some sightseeing before transferring you to Errachidia Airport. Tickets are not included and flight scheddule varies from winter to summer. Let us know to advise you about it.
