Meknes is another Moroccan imperial city like Rabat. It consists of two twons; the old section called the medina and the new section or the French town. The city was the capital of the Sultan Moulay Ismail during the 17 century. The high walls are obviously seen and are taken as defensive walls against the invader’s attack. In Meknes, we have tree city in one:the first: the royal city home to palaces and huge walls, the second is the medina and third town is the modern or french town.
Guided visit of Meknes will include the Sultan Moulay Ismail mausoleum, the basin Swani, Bab Lkhmis, and the old stores for cultivated cereals in the nearby lands. Later on, we take the one hour drive to the nearby city of Fes. Check into a Riad in the medina.
